Film London advises caution to productions as rioting dominates headlines

Film London has advised productions filming in the capital to exercise caution given the recent widespread rioting. Many shops across the city have been closing early to avoid the unrest. Ealing Studios in west London was attacked on Tuesday night and had an office looted.

Film London said: “Film London has been monitoring the events of the last three days in liaison with the Metropolitan Police and the London Borough Film Offices. Film London advises all productions filming on location at this time to exercise caution and make sensible judgments about shooting, following any instructions given by Government agencies, the police and the emergency services.”

Film London hasn't released details about whether specific productions have been affected by the rioting, but Mark Gatiss, writer and actor on BBC series Sherlock, revealed via Twitter that filming on the second series of the show had to be suspended "owing to approaching looters".

The deployment of some 16,000 police officers on the city’s streets over the past 48 hours or so may be reassuring to some producers.
