Congo Films expands into Chilean market with new office in Santiago

Colombia-based servicing company Congo Films has expanded its operations by opening an office in Santiago. The move feeds a host of new filming equipment into the Chilean capital that could help further establish the city and the wider country as a production centre in South America.

The company offers equipment including a Milo and Modula Rig motion control cameras, and full sets of anamorphic Hawk V-Lites, as well as Alexas, Epic, Red and Sony cameras. Flight Head, Fisher, Tyler and Panther stabilised heads are also in stock, while a Russian arm will be available by mid-2012.

We chose Chile because of its industry growth, awesome people and locations, low import duties and taxes, and political stability.

Carlos Congote is the company’s Chief Executive Officer: “We chose Chile because of its industry growth, awesome people and locations, low import duties and taxes, and political stability. We believe Chile will soon become a major shoot destination. It is a great place to shoot international features, commercial spots and television production. Renting specialty equipment to Brazil and Argentina is also another reason for us to decide to set up in the Southern country of Chile.”

The arrival of Congo Films has been lauded by other companies in Santiago too. Bud Theisen runs Straightforward Films: "Chile has always had great roads and landscapes for car commercials, but never the gear to really attract big car shoots. Bringing in a flight head or technocrane was usually a deal killer for us, but now we're good to go."

Tiger Beer recently turned Santiago into New York City, taking advantage of the city’s chameleonic ability to double for other Western urban centres.
