I’m looking for location featuring mountain slopes covered with snow for TV commercial to be shoot there. Shooting dates are beginning of June.

    Your suggestions are highly appreciated

    Cheers,

    Dear Ted
Chile´s winter starts at the end of June. The Los Andes Mountains offers you a lot of snow locations such Portillo Ski Resort, Valle Nevado, La Parva and El Colorado, Lagunillas -all these locations less than 2 hours from Santiago´s International Airport.
Also the south of Chile have dozens of Snow spots depending on what you want to produce.

    Hi Ted,
The Tirol, “Land in the Mountains“, is a fascinating Alpine region in the heart of Europe which attracts visitors and film makers from all over the world and offers unique environments during every season – such as the climate with four distinct seasons and five glacier regions with full infrastructure, which make filming in snow possible any day of the year.
We will be happy to welcome you here in Tirol – the location in the Heart of the Alps!

    Hi Ted,

The beginning of June is a bit early for shooting ski slopes anywhere in South America, some years we might have snow cover by then, some years not, it all depends on the weather and when the first storms arrive. Much more reliable dates would be from June 15 – 30.

A great way to check on snow conditions anywhere in the world is to subscribe to http://www.snow-forecast.com/ they’re the best in the business.

Chile has some good options for mountains and snow, happy to help you with production services if you think we’re a fit for the project. More information on shooting snow here at: http://www.straightforwardfilms.com/SFF-newsletterWinter2009.pdf

    cheers, Bud

    Hi Ted.
I am location manager in Argentina.

I recommend three areas of Argentina that have snow in early june.
I can also recommend some production companies that specialize in this type of projects, with very effective costs, some of them with small structure and others with bigger structure.
if you are interested can contact me by private mail

    Hi Ted,
Greetings from Nepalaya. We are a full service production company in Nepal. Although logistically a bit more challenging, we can surely find you areas up in the himalayas that may still be covered with snow in June. If interested in this part of the world, feel free to contact us. http://www.nepa-laya.com
    email: dana@nepalaya.com.np

Hope to hear from you soon, or in the near future. Nepal is an AMAZING location for any TV commerical.

    best,
    Dana

    Hi Ted,

June will be still quite early in the season so they are probably wanting to go high, either at Mt Cook or in Westland National Park. Both have had early season snowfalls on permanent cover but it all depends on what you are wanting to do.

You’ve left yourself not much time to get the right commercial concessions organised (Crown/govt permits priocessed through the Department of Conservation for operating on public land….there are no private mountains with snow on them right now), but just possible if you make some decisions quick, although it all depends on the scale. I have plenty of experience helping clients get the appropriate concessions filled out and processed.

As far as concessions though these can be problematic depending of the type of commercial. A commercial for toilet paper for example would probably get declined, advertising pure water or skis….no problem. It all depends.

    Both would need helicopter access.

I know of some good locations at the head of the Rakaia too as well as a good base to work from with helo access, but may be a little too early in the season.

June is pretty quite for me (have just come off a big summer of doing the second series of the TV series First Crossings), so happy to quote for location scouting of this job, but would need some more details as to exactly the type of commercial and what they are looking for.

You can email me more details at: robbrownnz@yahoo.com

and I’m happy to provide more detailed answers as to whether it is achievable in New Zealand and whether the concessions can be processed in time.

    Kind Regards

    Rob

    Hi Ted

Reel Locations is based in Queenstown in New Zealand’s South Island, and as Rob below has mentioned, June is on the early side for guaranteed good snow coverage in some locations, There are still plenty of options accessible by helicopter. Within a short heli flight from Queenstown there are many glaciers and high altitude mountain tops that have all year snow coverage.

Certainly later on in June it would be more likely that you could drive to a selection of film friendly snow locations.

    Hi,

How about South Island New Zealand. Queenstown / Wanaka region. Ski season starts early June in this area. It will be early season for the ski resorts slopes, so questionable snow levels at lower altitude in early June, but higher altitude mountains surrounding these 2 towns will have snow. If you are not looking to necessarily shoot on a ski field then there will be lots of mountain options with snow at higher altitudes.
Good infrastructure for filming in these areas, with many crew based in Queenstown.
We have a large database of Mountain / Snow images of this area, and scouts on the ground in Queenstown

    Cheers

    Richard
