New York filming incentives prompt 66% rise in productions in 2011

New York’s filming incentives have prompted a 66% rise in the number of productions applying to film in the state in 2011, according to figures released by the Office of Motion Picture and Television Development. Nearly 140 projects have visited so far this year, compared to 91 in 2010.

So far this year New York has hosted 91 features, 20 TV pilots and 26 separate full TV series. The production levels sustain the state as one of the top production centres in the US, alongside California and Louisiana.

States know that film and television production bring increased investment and good jobs.

Vans Stevenson is Senior Vice President of State Government Affairs at the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA): “States know that film and television production bring increased investment and good jobs, which is why New York put incentives in place and why you see the positive year-after-year growth in this sector.”

Feature films shooting in New York this year have included The Bourne Legacy and Men in Black III, while TV projects have included Boardwalk Empire, Damages and Glee.
