Florida’s Sarasota County attracts multiple projects since film incentive scheme launch

Sarasota County in south-west Florida has become popular since launching its new incentive scheme five months ago. Productions can claim up to 20% cash back on non-governmental qualified expenditures and 100% of county governmental fees.

Taylor Hackford’s crime thriller Parker has been perhaps the highest-profile shoot. Jeanne Corcoran is Director of the Sarasota County Film & Entertainment Office:

“[The incentive] has resulted in a busy time, including the recently completed major motion picture Parker filming in Sarasota County, with a crew of about 130 and more than 250 extras, all on location at the fully restored Venetian Gothic mansion and estate of John and Mable Ringling, the Ca d’Zan. This production followed on the heels of the exquisite Jackie Evancho special of Great Performances that also shot on location at the Ca d’Zan a few months prior.”

Free Ride, a 70s-set drama featuring True Blood star Anna Paquin, was another of the higher-profile shoots that took advantage of the 70s looks available in locations including Englewood and Venice, while TV pilot Workers Comp also filmed in the county. All these projects qualified for the incentive scheme.
