UK-Israeli location filming treaty wins support of King’s Speech producer

A new location filming treaty between the UK and Israel is being supported by a producer of The King’s Speech. Gareth Unwin has spoken of how the new treaty could boost filmmaking in both countries. The treaty will allow productions to benefit from filming incentives in each respective country.

Multi-party co-productions are notoriously difficult to structure. With the new treaty we have a great template for how we might all collaborate.

Unwin is working on a new film called Zaytoun, which will be the first UK/Israeli feature: “Multi-party co-productions are notoriously difficult to structure. With the new treaty we have a great template for how we might all collaborate to bring this amazing story to life. We are incredibly excited to be working with such outstanding Israeli and Palestinian talent.”

Israeli films produced under the terms of the new agreement will be eligible for public funding from sources such as the BFI Film Fund and UK Film Tax Relief. British films will be able to benefit from similar funding schemes in Israel.
