ITV’s five-part drama Desire to film in Sheffield
ITV’s upcoming drama Desire, produced by Mammoth Screen (Poldark, And Then There Were None), will be shot on location in Sheffield. Split into five parts, the series will be penned by Jeremy Brock (Casualty).
Principal photography will commence this summer in the borough of Sheffield. Located in South Yorkshire, Sheffield has become a popular filming location, particularly among period projects. Recent productions to have filmed there include ’71 and Testament of Youth (pictured).
ITV’s Head of Drama, Polly Hill states: “I am so thrilled to be working with Jeremy. Desire is such a beautiful and compelling story, dealing with the intense passion of a new relationship, the tricky and messy business of divorce and the ultimate love for your children. I am proud to be making this with Mammoth Screen for ITV.”
The series will follow Leia, a divorcee who suddenly finds herself overcome with desire for another man, to the point where their relationship begins to have disastrous consequences for Leia’s family and her job.
Jeremy Brock adds: “for a long time, I’ve wanted to write about what it feels like to be a parent, to try and balance the unconditionality of parental love with the shock of adult passion. Our values are bound up with our identity… children, family, work, love, our ideologies. I wanted to write about what happens when all these lights, by which we steer, are suddenly torn away and we are offered the stark choice: adapt or risk losing everything.”
Projects shot within Yorkshire can tap into the Yorkshire Content Fund, which can offer an investment of anywhere between GBP10,000 to GBP500,000 per project. This investment can be stacked with the UK’s 25% tax rebate on filming. The incentive requires a minimum spend of GBP1 million per broadcast hour for television programmes.
