Sherlock Holmes sequel films in London music hall and recreates period Europe

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows filmed mainly in the UK, including scenes at Wilton’s Music Hall, which is the world’s oldest surviving music hall. Aside from brief visits to Switzerland and France, London doubled for some of the Parisian settings and a few generic European locations.

Greenwich in London ended up being used both for scenes set in the English capital, and also as a Parisian double. A cafe situated next to the Eiffel Tower in the finished film was actually built in Hampton Court.

The National Trust’s Knole House in west Kent, a 500-year-old country house, became a Bavarian castle and the German Meinhard Munitions Factory was recreated at Chatham Dockyard, also in Kent. A little further afield, the Welsh Valleys stood in for France’s Vosges Mountains.
