Ontario producers travel to India in a bid to boost co-productions

Producers from nearly a dozen Ontario production companies have visited India to encourage more co-productions between the two regions. The Canadians visited Mumbai and Goa, and took part in a programme at the International Film Festival of India focussing on Canadian filming.

Karen Thorne-Stone is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Media Development Corporation: “We recognise India is home to one of the largest, most vibrant production sectors in the world. By connecting our talented Ontario producers with successful Indian producers, executives and financiers, we’re helping to build a strong relationship between our two jurisdictions.”

Ontario had a huge 40% share of Canadian production through 2011, while British Columbia and Quebec followed in distant second and third place with around 25% each. Many countries are pursuing formal co-production agreements with India. New Zealand signed a deal last summer and Poland is actively seeking an understanding too.
