North Carolina and EUE/Screen Gem Studios on track for strong 2012

North Carolina and its EUE/Screen Gem Studios are likely to have a strong 2012 given the state’s 2011 success. Figures from the North Carolina Film Office show the state almost tripled its annual takings from direct production spend, making some USD220 million.

The state launched its 25% filming incentive in mid-2010, a move that helped it secure Iron Man 3, which starts filming from May this year with EUE/Screen Gem Studios as a base. State authorities are hopeful that 2012 will see another jump in direct spending, spearheaded by the Marvel shoot.

Not only have we had a record number of jobs created and money spent in the state, but we have seen production taking place in all areas of North Carolina.

Aaron Syrett, North Carolina Film Office

Aaron Syrett is Director of the North Carolina Film Office: “It’s been a great year here in North Carolina and even better is that 2012 looks like it is on pace to top 2011. Not only have we had a record number of jobs created and money spent in the state, but we have seen production taking place in all areas of North Carolina.”

Productions must spend at least USD250,000 in-state to qualify for the filming incentive and through the course of 2011 this applied to nearly 40 different projects. Potential franchise-starter The Hunger Games was among the projects filming during the year.
