Twickenham Film Studios in London to close despite hosting War Horse and Iron Lady
Twickenham Film Studios in south-west London has gone into administration. The studio dates back to 1913, but has lost money for the past three years. Oscar-nominated features War Horse and My Week with Marilyn have filmed there recently.
Gerald Krasner is handling the administration and spoke to The Telegraph: “It has lost money for a few years now, and the shareholders have already put in substantial monies but they are not prepared to put any more money in. It will not be retained as a film studio, because there is no way of making it pay as a film studio.”
It is a sign of modern times and modern filmmaking, where so many more productions are either shot on location or in much bigger studios with more advanced technology.
Stephen Woolley, Producer
Producer Stephen Woolley also commented to the outlet: “It is a sign of modern times and modern filmmaking, where so many more productions are either shot on location or in much bigger studios with more advanced technology.”
Despite being the largest UK studio facility when it was first opened, Twickenham has been unable to compete with more modern studios like Pinewood, which has a high profile internationally.
