Turkey location filming on James Bond Skyfall focuses on Adana

Publicity for Sam Mendes’ new James Bond feature Skyfall has stepped up a notch, with the team sharing details of the Turkish leg of its shoot. Although the production is spending time in Istanbul, a full month of filming has already taken place in the city of Adana in the south of the country.

Director Sam Mendes described the appeal of an Istanbul shoot: “We wanted to be here because it is the most magnificent place. It’s an incredible city and obviously the goal is – in a relatively short sequence in the movie – to try to capture the essence of the country both old and new, both its traditions and modernity.”

Given the apparent brevity of the time spent in Istanbul and the recent reports of a stunt mishap in one of the bazaars, its seems likely that the city’s being used mainly for an action sequence, with the bulk of the drama taking place in the lesser-known Adana. It’s not yet clear whether Adana has been used as itself or as a double.

Confirmed filming locations for Skyfall so far include London, Scotland and Shanghai, as well as the franchise’s usual visit to Pinewood Studios.
