Tornado feature secures significant filming incentive pay-out in Michigan

An upcoming tornado disaster movie will get a USD12 million incentive pay-out from the State of Michigan. Using the working title Category Six, it’s scheduled to spend around USD40 million during a shoot that will be based at Michigan Motion Picture Studios in Pontiac.

“This film will do double duty shooting on location as well as at Michigan Motion Picture Studios in Pontiac. It will also be a good-paying project for Michigan workers.”

The project is one of the first bigger-budget projects Michigan has drawn in recent months, since the state cut down the funding for its filming incentive programme in mid-2011. At the moment the state film fund is worth USD25 million a year, which makes it a challenge to appeal to larger studio productions.
