Dark Knight Rises producer discusses India location filming
Emma Thomas, a Producer on The Dark Knight Rises, has discussed filming on location in India for Christopher Nolan’s third Batman film. The Indian leg of the shoot took place in May 2011 at Mehrangarh Fort overlooking Jodhpur, in the north-west province of Rajasthan.
Thomas commented to Press Trust of India: “We wanted a sequence that needed to be in the middle of nowhere, and the place where we shot is beautiful and clearly very remote. We actually went there with a very small crew and it was an exciting way to start the movie.”
The 500-year-old Mehrangarh Fort rests on a mountain ledge overlooking the town below and was already well-known as a popular commercial filming location. This leg of the shoot was serviced locally by On The Road India. The Dark Knight Rises filmed around the world throughout 2011, including several weeks spent doubling Pittsburgh for Gotham City.
The Dark Knight Rises begins its gradual global release from 20th July 2012.
