Homeland doubles Israel for Iran and Lebanon in second-season filming

Hit TV show Homeland has doubled Israel for Iran and Lebanon while filming for its second season. The domestic terrorism series is based in North Carolina in the US, but a unit travelled to Israel to film scenes involving Claire Danes’ CIA operative.

Alex Gansa is Co-Creator and a Producer on the show and spoke to the New York Times: “We had taken an Israeli show, adapted it for American television on the basis really of reading just the pilot episode, and then taken it back to Israel to be filmed using the same crew that had done the Israeli version.

“There was a chaos and energy and feeling that anything could happen at any moment, which you are not going to get shooting in Charlotte [in North Carolina].”

Danes comments: “It has been a lot more fun and cosmopolitan than I had anticipated ... [People] work very hard, worry very hard and play hard as well. The night life is incredibly alive and there is an extremely positive and generous spirit towards us; quite at odds with what some might have imagined.”

Homeland has been a huge success and swept the board at the Emmy Awards last weekend. The Israel shoot was serviced by Tender Productions, a subsidiary of Keshet TV Broadcasters, which produced the original Israeli series on which Homeland is based.
