Michigan location filming fund grows for 2013 fiscal year

Michigan has a film fund worth nearly USD60 million for the 2013 fiscal year. Support for the state’s filming industries has see-sawed over the past 12 months, with the 2013 figure representing new money, plus several million that was unused in the last fiscal year.

Michelle Begnoche is with the Michigan Film Office and spoke to Detroit Free Press: "We're really optimistic. We know we have some work to do and we're working very hard to communicate the USD58 million to the industry, but we're getting very good feedback."

Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great and Powerful was the last major studio production to film in Michigan. It went in under the former incentive programme and claimed a rebate of some USD40 million from a production spend of over USD100 million.

Michigan authorities also recently clarified that aside from a few special circumstances, commercials are not eligible for incentive support.
