New York City extends location filming halt after storm Sandy

New York City’s halt of all location filming throughout its five boroughs will last at least another 24 hours in the aftermath of storm Sandy. Studio filming is allowed, but location shoots will not be officially permitted until at least Friday (2nd November 2012).

The Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting in New York said: “Due to the after-effects of Hurricane Sandy and continuing safety precautions, there will be no permits issued for filming at exterior locations in the five boroughs from Wednesday October 31st until at least Friday November 2nd 2012. Permits will be issued only for parking at qualified stages. Permits will be processed starting Wednesday October 31st.”

Will Smith’s Winter’s Tale and Darren Aronofsky’s Noah are among the major features that have been delayed by the storm, which was downgraded from a hurricane shortly before making landfall in the US. More than a quarter of a million New Yorkers lost power and the city’s subway system sustained its worst damage in its history.
