Mexico lowers spending threshold for commercial filming incentive
Mexico has lowered its spending threshold for its commercial filming incentive. Up until a few weeks ago commercial producers had to spend 70 million pesos (USD5.3 million) to qualify for the rebate, but this has now been reduced to 40 million pesos (USD3 million).
The Mexican Film Commission (COMEFILM) said: “The amendment seeks to broaden the range of projects benefiting from the incentive, giving the opportunity to those low- and medium-budget productions constantly being made in Mexico and not reaching the minimum required by ProAV, but still entitled to the VAT refund.”
Numerous features have filmed in Mexico in recent years, including Elysium and Colombiana, while commercial shoots have included brands like DNB Bank with George Clooney. President Felipe Calderon launched the ProAV programme in 2010.
