North Carolina studio emerges better equipped as Iron Man 3 wraps

Iron Man 3 has wrapped its North Carolina shoot and the state’s EUE/Screen Gems Studios is now better equipped as a result of the USD200 million project. Securing the Marvel film has been a major regional boost, delivering around USD90 million locally.

Bill Saffo is Mayor of Wilmington and spoke to Star News: “Marvel is a brand that's known all over the world. To be able to produce that here is kudos to our local film office, our crews and our facilities. It demonstrates that Wilmington can do this on the biggest scale you can do.”

The production was based at EUE/Screen Gems Studios in North Carolina, which upgraded its internet connectivity for the Marvel shoot. Now, separate productions can have their own encrypted networks at the studio.

Bill Vassar is Executive Vice President at the studio and spoke to the outlet: “We kept seeing production companies increase the amount of bandwidth they needed on each production. It gets faster and faster. We have clients, such as this one (Marvel) who need to move artwork all over the world. We had to be on our toes.”

North Carolina was also eyeing Marvel’s Captain America sequel, but has lost out to Ohio where the studio filmed extensively for The Avengers.
