UK Chancellor confirms TV location filming tax credit for April 2013
The UK will launch a TV location filming tax credit in April 2013. Chancellor George Osborne confirmed the programme to boost the TV industry and encourage high-end shows like Downton Abbey to continue filming in Britain.
Osborne also announced a new GBP6 million fund to provide entry- and mid-level training for up to 3,300 people entering the UK’s creative industries.
John McVay is Chief Executive of the Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television (Pact): “The tax credits announced by the chancellor ... are great news for UK production. This will ensure UK productions currently made outside the UK are attracted back to Britain, and help attract inward investment to the UK.
“We are looking forward to publication of the legislation and Pact is committed to working with Government to support the future success of this critical support.”
Places like Ireland, central and Eastern Europe and South Africa have all offered more competitive TV incentive programmes in recent years, often being doubled for the UK. The draft legislation will be published next week.
