Special India events target film tourism and international filming boosts

Movie industry professionals in India want to boost film tourism in the country and encourage Bollywood to become more international. A single-platform event has been created that brings together Indian producers and directors with international tourism boards.

The India International Film Tourism Conclave (IIFTC) is holding film tourism events this week in the Indian cities of Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai, which host most of the country’s film tourists.

Tourism representatives from countries including Oman, Korea and Fiji will be at the events. By working with tourism boards to discuss foreign filming incentive deals for Bollywood producers, international film tourism to India could also get a boost from overseas audiences.

We will also give tourism boards and film commissions around the world a reliable platform to reach out to the Indian film industry.

Anindya Dasgupta is with the IIFTC: “While our flagship event will take place every year in February, throughout the year we plan to conduct many stimulating activities that will not only further the cause of film tourism, but will also give tourism boards and film commissions around the world a reliable platform to reach out to the Indian film industry.”

International audiences are increasingly heading to India to visit Bollywood’s home. Demand recently drove Virgin Atlantic to launch a new route between London and Mumbai, and a separate tourism campaign has been promoting Indian filming locations used in Ang Lee’s Life of Pi.
