Colombia launches new 40% location filming incentive to boost industry
Colombia has launched its new 40% location filming incentive, intended to attract international producers. The programme is available for features and TV movies that spend USD600,000 locally.
Authorities approved the filming incentive for Colombia in mid-2012 but then the rest of the year was spent working out the finer points. In addition to the 40% rebate on production expenditure, producers can also claim a 20% rebate on accommodation, food and transport costs incurred locally.
“With this fund a production incentive will be given to all movies or TV movies filmed in Colombia. TV series and commercials are not included,” Colombian Film Commission’s (CFC) Lina María Sánchez told TLG when the programme was approved.
The new incentive has a film fund worth about USD14 million and it’s expected to deliver foreign investment worth three times this figure in the coming year.
