MJZ films on location in California’s San Pedro Harbor for Oreo life raft comedy

MJZ headed to San Pedro Harbor in Los Angeles to film a new comedy spot for Oreo cookies. Life Raft shows two shipwreck survivors lost at sea and arguing about whether the cookie or creme is the best part of an Oreo, before an imaginary helicopter offers a rescue.

“We considered working in a tank,” comments MJZ’s Executive Producer Scott Howard, “but felt it would ultimately compromise the look, so we ended up off the edge of a dock in the San Pedro Harbor.

“This approach gave us an authentic look, along with the function we needed to achieve the effect of the guy lifting up into the sky.”

It was a visually simple story to tell so we didn't want to complicate the shooting approach.

Weather was the biggest issue. The production team faced a rainstorm on the morning of the shoot and then gale-force winds over the harbour hampered use of the crane as they tried to film the rescue scene.

“It was a visually simple story to tell,” Howard adds, “so we didn't want to complicate the shooting approach.”
