Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios reaches out to Bollywood filming industry

Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios (PIMS) has been reaching out to the film industry in India. The aim is to encourage more Bollywood productions to use the new facility – scheduled to open in May 2013 – while also potentially boosting regional film tourism.

“We can offer a fully-integrated production facility equipped with film studios, television studios and post-production facilities, which will set a new benchmark for the region,” a PIMS representative told Malaysian news agency Bernama.

Film tourism driven by the Bollywood production industry is recognised as an increasingly potent force. Figures from Tourism Malaysia suggest that around 700,000 Indian tourists visited Malaysia in 2012, Bernama reports, and this number could increase if more Bollywood productions are filmed in and around facilities like Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios.
