TV spy drama The Blacklist doubles Long Beach for Washington DC
A new TV spy drama is filming in Long Beach in eastern New York this weekend, doubling the location for the streets of Washington, DC. Shooting will include special effects, stunt work and vehicle collisions.
“It’s set in DC, so everything is doubling for Washington,” Location Manager Damien Resnick told the Long Island Herald: “[The Long Beach Bridge] had the look that we wanted and we wanted to stay in the greater New York, Nassau County area. The City of Long Beach, Village of Island Park and the county has been really great in co-operating and supporting what we want to do.”
Nassau is becoming the Hollywood East of the motion picture and television industry as we have the perfect locations for many films.
Edward Mangano, Nassau County Executive
Few productions film in Washington, DC. The city has heavy filming restrictions, especially around landmark locations, and there are no filming incentives on offer.
New York’s Nassau County, on the other hand, has a thriving production industry in central Long Island. Marvel's Avengers Assemble (below) filmed partly in the county and the region generated USD90 million of revenue in 2012. Authorities recently hosted a tour for production professionals that included visits to Gold Coast Studios and Grumman Studios, both of which are hosting The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
“Nassau,” said County Executive Edward Mangano, “is becoming the Hollywood East of the motion picture and television industry as we have the perfect locations for many films.”
