Period fantasy Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell to film on location in UK and Canada
Period fantasy miniseries Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell will film on location in northern England and in Canada. The drama is set in an alternate 19th Century England around the time of the Napoleonic Wars, as two men reintroduce magic to the landscape.
The miniseries will be an international co-production that involves production companies including BBC America, Feel Film, Cuba Pictures and Bell Media in Canada. Screen Yorkshire in the UK and Cite Amerique in Montreal have also invested in the production.
“We’re delighted to be part of this amazing project,” said Catherine MacLeod, Vice-President of Specialty Channels for Bell Media: “The fact that Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell will be filming in Canada is an added bonus and we look forward to bringing this new series to our Space [channel] viewers.”

It’s not yet clear where in Canada the seven-part series will be filmed. However, the involvement of Toronto-based Bell Media and Montreal-based Cite Amerique suggests the show will opt for Ontario’s competitive location filming tax credits.
