British Columbia politician pledges election victory will bring filming incentive rise

A candidate for the premiership of British Columbia has pledged to increase location filming incentives if he wins the upcoming election. Adrian Dix heads the New Democratic Party in the western Canadian province and said he will increase the filming tax credit to 40% of labour costs.

“I don’t think there are as many industries as loved by people in the community as the film industry,” Dix told the media during a press conference at Vancouver Film Studios: “Today we are announcing to the world that British Columbia is back in the film and television business.”

Christy Clark, British Columbia’s incumbent Premier, has been under pressure from the regional production community to increase the province’s location filming tax credit. Over the past year British Columbia has been losing jobs and business to more comprehensive filming incentives in Ontario and Quebec.
