Georgia filming incentives crucial for Pinewood Atlanta

Georgia’s generous filming incentives were a crucial element of Pinewood Studios’ decision to invest in the state. The studio has bought a 40% stake in Pinewood Atlanta through a joint venture agreement with River’s Rock LLC.

“Our contribution will be our expertise and the Pinewood brand is obviously incredibly strong in the film industry,” Pinewood’s Andrew Smith told Global Atlanta: “You look where you can get the incentives ... You've got to get the combination right of fiscal incentives, skills and infrastructure. It's a formula and you need those three.”

Georgia has a rapidly expanding production industry and is becoming one of the main filming hubs in the US. Cable zombie drama The Walking Dead is based in the state and other recent productions have included The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
