Namibia Film Commission and The Location Guide to hold Cannes drinks reception

Namibia Film Commission and The Location Guide will be holding a drinks reception at the Cannes Film Festival on Thursday 16th May. Cannes is the world’s most prestigious film festival, with showcases of the latest movies and rich opportunities to network with the production industry elite.

Namibia Film Commission is rapidly establishing Namibia as a filming location with global appeal. The country recently hosted George Miller’s post-apocalyptic follow-up Mad Max: Fury Road and further international interest comes from the likes of the US, China and Japan, as well as from countries across Europe. Delegates from the commission will be discussing Namibian filming locations with producers throughout their time in Cannes.

“Cannes offers opportunities to network and introduce Namibia to the world,” comments Namibia Film Commission’s Board Commissioner Obed Emvula: “For many years Namibia has had a silent representation in the films that were shot on location in Namibia. These films sometimes make it into competition or find a showcase at Cannes. Zulu, a Pathe International production, will be featured at Cannes this year.”

Namibia is film-friendly. Although we are not yet established on a level playing field compared to our competition, the country is young with a dynamic democracy.
