Nicolas Cage supports call for Nevada location filming incentive

Actor Nicolas Cage has testified to lawmakers to support a formal location filming incentive that’s being considered for Nevada in the south-west US. The state does not currently offer any filming incentives, but a bill has been proposed that would introduce a 20% filming tax credit.

“I want to make a request that we make our beautiful state of Nevada the new face of America to the international community,” Cage told lawmakers in Carson City: “Movies are the way to do that.”

“Even at 20%, and other states are offering 25, we're competitive because of the proximity, because we have hotel rooms and rental car agencies,” Chris Ramirez, founder of Silver State Production Services, told local Fox affiliate KVVU: “Producers know this. They know we have the infrastructure ready.”

Nevada has been a popular shoot location without filming incentives. Las Vegas has hosted films like The Hangover, although the original Vegas-set TV crime drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation does much of its studio work in California.

The opening of Reno Tahoe Studios in March this year could help boost Nevada’s popularity as a filming location.
