Filming out of the ordinary in Lapland

Finnish Lapland is full of extremes. In the Lappish winter, snow covers everything. The snow and ice arrive earlier than anywhere else in Scandinavia. Thanks to the long period of snow cover, the look and texture of snow varies greatly, offering a multitude of atmospheres and sceneries.

In summer, Lapland offers constant daylight around the clock for two and a half months. This provides opportunities for long shooting days and atmospheric scenery that is possible only above the Arctic Circle. The Finnish summer ends with an explosion of autumn colours that are particularly beautiful in Lapland.

Rough, untouched nature, edgy urban locations, modern hi-tech design and skilled people provide for a truly flexible shooting destination.

Lapland may be far away in terms of distance, but it is just a few hours away from the major European cities. An extensive infrastructure of air, rail and road connections means that wherever you are in Lapland, you are never more than a few minutes from unspoilt nature.

Hard-working local crews are appreciated by filmmakers for their enthusiastic, entrepreneurial spirit. Since they are accustomed to working in nature and in freezing conditions, having a local crew on board can be invaluable for your production.

The Finnish Lapland Film Commission offers a range of free support services, such as tailored packages of reference photos to match the project and contacts with local services and crew. For more information, please check out the website www.filmlapland.fi.
