Captain America sequel wraps Cleveland filming for LA studio shoot

Marvel’s superhero sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier has wrapped its location filming in Cleveland, Ohio, which doubled for Washington, DC. The film now heads to California and will continue studio work in Los Angeles.

“You can have Cleveland stand in for anything, from Chicago to New York, to DC, to a multitude of cities,” the film’s co-director Joe Russo told local outlet WKYC: “Cleveland has period buildings so you can do a period piece."

“A lot of times you get sold a lot of false promises," Russo adds: "You get a city and can't do things you anticipated. That never happens with Ivan [Schwarz, President of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission].”

Cleveland has formed a relationship with Marvel in recent years, having also doubled for New York City in Joss Whedon’s hugely successful Avengers movie. The city lacks studio facilities, but the film commission plans to change this in the next few years.
