Jude Law submarine feature Black Sea films on location in the UK

Jude Law’s new feature Black Sea is filming on location in the UK. The movie tells the story of a rogue submarine captain who puts together a misfit crew to search for treasure in the depths of Eastern Europe’s Black Sea.

Filming is taking place partly on decommissioned Cold War-era submarine the ‘Black Widow’, according to media outlet KM Group. The vessel is currently moored on the River Medway in south-east England.

We’re all very excited to be embarking on this visceral, underwater thriller.

“All of us at Film4 love working with Kevin (Macdonald, the director), and have done so on many of his wonderful films over the last ten years, since his extraordinary feature Touching the Void,” said Film4 head Tessa Ross: “We’re all very excited to be embarking on this visceral, underwater thriller with him and with [producer] Charles Steel, and all our friends at Focus.”

Black Sea is being co-produced and co-financed by Focus and Film4. Macdonald's previous features include Oscar-winning drama The Last King of Scotland, documentary One Day in September and true-life mountaineering docudrama Touching the Void.
