Florida prepares for location filming benefits of Dolphin Tale sequel

Clearwater on Florida’s west coast is preparing for location filming to start on Dolphin Tale 2. The movie will be a follow-up to the hit 2011 family drama telling the true story of an injured dolphin that was nursed back to health with a prosthetic tail.

Dolphin Tale 2 will be an enormous economic impact for the whole community,” Darlene Kole of the Clearwater Beach Chamber of Commerce told the Clearwater Gazette: “It will provide worldwide recognition to the area and highlight the Clearwater Marine Aquarium and all they do for the rescue and rehabilitation of sea life.

“[The crew] will be staying all over the place. They will rent homes, apartments, condos and hotel rooms.”

Dolphin Tale 2 has secured a filming incentive payment of USD5 million. The first film spent USD20 million in the Clearwater region and made a massive impact at the box-office. Florida offers a filming tax credit of up to 30% but authorities are under pressure to sustain it by increasing the programme’s long-term film fund.
