Simon Pegg film Kill Me Three Times shoots on location in Western Australia

British actor Simon Pegg – star of Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and more recently Edgar Wright’s The World’s End – is filming in Western Australia (WA) for feature Kill Me Three Times. The shoot is supported by Perth-based regional development agency ScreenWest.

“Federal and state incentives make an enormous amount of difference, there's no doubt,” producer Tania Chambers told Australian Associated Press: “It could have been shot outside Australia. It's a film where people have worked very hard to be able to show that WA was the best place to make it."

“Private investors from WA have been deeply involved in the film, with the new financing company called Jake Film Finance assisting us with cash flow and equity investment,” Chambers added.

Australia is edging back into the international spotlight, partly because Angelina Jolie is in Queensland to film her second directorial effort, the historical drama Unbroken. Disney made a commitment earlier this year to film its big-budget remake of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in Australia, although this shoot has now been postponed.

The country has had difficulty appealing to international studio productions in recent years because of the high Australian dollar and a national filming incentive programme that lags behind many of its global competitors such as the UK, Ontario and parts of Eastern Europe.

Productions such as Hugh Jackman’s The Wolverine have had to lobby the government for one-off payments alongside the regular filming incentive programme to help offset local production costs. A dedicated AUD20 million has in fact been set up to help fund this approach.
