A New York Winter’s Tale delivers millions filming entirely in the Empire State

Romantic feature A New York Winter’s Tale – or simply Winter’s Tale in the US – filmed entirely on location in the Empire State. Figures from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) reveal that the movie spent more than USD15 million on local production services.

The film spans different time periods in New York’s history, beginning with a thief in the 19th Century who falls in love with a terminally-ill woman whose house he has broken into. Despite being tracked down by a sinister crime lord, the thief then appears in modern-day New York with no memory of who he is.

“Because the story spans many years it made location shooting more challenging for the production,” said Lisa Rawlins, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs at Warner Bros Entertainment.

“We are very grateful for the co-operation we received from the neighbourhoods we used in New York, especially those in the Brooklyn area, which is an important set-piece for the film. Additionally, production's second unit crew spent six days filming in the Adirondacks and Capital region.”

In 2013, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 became the biggest-ever feature film to shoot entirely in New York, taking in locations throughout the state as well as Grumman Studios and Gold Coast Studios on Long Island.

The state’s generous filming incentive has also drawn iconic TV institution The Tonight Show, which will start shooting in New York for the first time in a generation as new host Jimmy Fallon takes over from Jay Leno.
