Warner Bros Studios Leavesden to expand filming facilities with new sound stages

Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in north-west London – recently home to Tom Cruise’s sci-fi Edge of Tomorrow – is to build three new sound stages by the end of this year. The largest will be 35,000 square feet and there will also be an extra 105,000 square feet of production office space.

Leavesden has already opened a large sound stage, new workshop space and an external water tank so far this year. The three additional stages will bring the studios’ total offering to 13 by 2015.

Studios Leavesden will allow us to further tap into the world-class creativity and innovation available here to continue this tradition of filmmaking excellence.”

Warner Bros. bought Leavesden Studios in 2010 after filming all eight Harry Potter movies at the facility, and the site was re-opened in 2012 after a major refurbishment. In the last two years the studios have also hosted Ron Howard’s Heart of the Sea and Guy Ritchie’s Man from U.N.C.L.E, in addition to Edge of Tomorrow. Leavesden is currently host to a new adaptation of Tarzan from veteran Harry Potter director David Yates, as well as Joe Wright’s Pan.

Several of London’s studio facilities are pursuing expansion plans. In the last few weeks Pinewood secured approval to develop additional studio space and Elstree has spent the past year clearing a new back lot on its existing premises.
