American Civil War TV pilot Point of Honor to film on location in Virginia

Television drama pilot Point of Honor will film on location in Virginia in the eastern US. Telling a story of family drama in the 1860s during the American Civil War, the production is the second period piece to come to Virginia in recent years following Revolutionary War spy drama Turn.

Point of Honor may be connected to an historic building of the same name in Lynchburg, Virginia. It was home to several prominent doctors and lawmen in the 19th Century before eventually becoming a house museum operated by the city.

Virginia’s base 15% filming incentive was instrumental in attracting Point of Honor to the state with Randall Wallace as director and the pilot will start filming in September for Amazon Prime Instant Video.

“We have been working with Randall Wallace since he came to Virginia to research for Secretariat [2010],” said Andy Edmunds of the Virginia Film Office: “A lack of competitive film incentives at the time prevented him from being able to film that legendary Virginia story in Virginia. I couldn’t be happier that we are finally able to bring Randall back to his home state for a groundbreaking new media project such as this one. The economic impact for Virginia should it become a series will be significant.”

Producers on Turn recently announced that they would be filming a second series on location in Virginia. The drama is based on the true story of America’s first spy ring and its role in helping George Washington win the Revolutionary War in the mid-18th Century.

Virginia faces intense competition from neighbouring states jostling to host long-term TV productions. Georgia in particular has a thriving production industry based in Atlanta and was an early favourite to secure Turn.
