British Film Commission holds UK Film and TV Week in Los Angeles

The British Film Commission has organised an inaugural UK Film and TV Week in Los Angeles. Screen agencies from across Britain are promoting the UK as a filming location to attract more productions on the scale of 24: Live Another Day and The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Wales is being ably represented by its own creative team, who will be promoting Pinewood Studios Wales and the Media Investment Budget, which were announced earlier this year.

“We will be promoting what Wales can offer the US industry throughout the week, raising awareness of the facilities we have in Wales, the talent, the locations and the support that is available,” said Edwina Hart, Wales’ Economy Minister.

“The West Coast of the US is one of our target markets and this event will enable us to build on the relationships we have already established there.”

Fantasy adventure Atlantis and sci-fi staple Doctor Who are among the British TV hits based in Wales, while Sherlock has also filmed scenes in the country. Wales has a growing international profile as a filming location and is also host to David S Goyer’s supernatural fantasy series Da Vinci’s Demons, which doubles the Swansea area for Renaissance Italy.

Several of the major Hollywood studios are already regular visitors to the UK, with Disney subsidiaries Marvel and Lucasfilm having brought the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy and Star Wars: Episode VII to London. Disney has also expanded its presence further west, filming scenes for Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass in Gloucester and basing its TV series Galavant in Bristol.
