Hampshire in southern England has strong year with high-profile films and TV

Hampshire in the south of England had a strong 2014, hosting nearly a dozen feature films and five high-profile TV shoots. Superhero sequel The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible 5 were among the biggest feature productions.

Other shoots included US spy drama 24: Live Another Day, ITV’s hit period drama Downton Abbey and the BBC’s upcoming Wolf Hall.

“Film Hampshire have done an outstanding job in 2014 attracting many high-profile productions into the County which has a positive effect on our economy, with film crews staying and spending money locally as well as publicising Hampshire to support our tourism industry,” said Councillor Seán Woodward, Executive Member for Economy, Transport and Environment.

“Tourism plays a vital role in Hampshire generating well over GBP 3 billion each year from visitors coming into Hampshire, and providing more than 60,000 jobs.”

Positioned just 75 miles from London, Hampshire offers easy access to the capital’s studio infrastructure, which is part of the reason for its production success. In addition, its locations can easily double for other parts of the world.

Since 2012, Hampshire’s movie credits have included Edge of Tomorrow, Thor: The Dark World, The Monuments Men and Guardians of the Galaxy.

The UK continues to be one of the world’s top production hubs, partly because of its generous filming incentive programme and TV tax credit. Most of London’s main film studios are expanding their facilities and more industrial buildings in and around the capital are being registered as potential production locations.
