Political thriller The Truth Commissioner starts filming in Belfast and Dublin

New feature The Truth Commissioner will spend the next five weeks filming on location in Belfast and Dublin, and other parts of the Republic. Belfast is home to Game of Thrones and Dublin hosts shows including Vikings and Ripper Street.

Based on a fiction novel by David Park, The Truth Commissioner is set during the Northern Ireland peace process in the aftermath of The Troubles.

Northern Ireland Screen, The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and the Irish Film Board are all supporting the production, which is directed by Declan Recks.

“It is hardly a surprise that all the major film funders in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland have put their weight behind this important film,” said Eoin O'Callaghan of Big Fish Films.

“The film has a brilliant and believable script. The characters and situations are vividly drawn and the Northern Ireland setting really brings to life this compelling moment in history. With Declan at the helm, it's going to be a beautiful picture.”

Belfast and Dublin are both major production hubs. Northern Ireland’s industry has been given a major boost by Game of Thrones, although the region still mainly attracts UK shoots.

It is hardly a surprise that all the major film funders in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland have put their weight behind this important film.

South of the border, the Republic boosted its filming incentive at the start of the year. Dublin is the home of History Channel’s hit historical drama Vikings and also hosts Penny Dreadful and Ripper Street, which was formerly produced by the BBC.

Last month the Irish Film and Television Academy and BAFTA hosted a panel discussion in London focussing on how producers could maximise Ireland’s boosting filming incentives by way of UK/Irish co-productions.
