Buffalo in New York assesses impact of filming for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2
Buffalo in western New York State is assessing the economic benefits of hosting action sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 for the past two weeks. The film is estimated to have spent USD 7 million in the city and will also film elsewhere in New York.
New York’s Empire State Development organisation formed partnerships with studio Paramount Pictures and the Buffalo Niagara Film Commission to crew the movie locally, and to offer discounted services in the city.
Members of the production team stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton, which was just one of the local businesses to benefit from the large-scale shoot.
“Our property hosted thousands of room nights and the production filled the hotel to full capacity!” said Wendy B Clubine, director of Buffalo market area sales for Buffalo Lodging Associates LLC.
“While we are no stranger to hosting the entertainment industry, this production was the largest, and the economic impact to neighbouring restaurants and business was staggering. The last few weeks have been a wonderful experience!”
“Thanks to the film production tax credit programme, and the 10% expansion on labour expenses for upstate productions, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 has contributed millions of dollars to New York State's economy,” added Howard Zemsky, President, CEO and Commissioner of Empire State Development.
“In just two short weeks, next summer's blockbuster provided a tangible boost to Buffalo's businesses and raised the city's profile as a great place to shoot a major action movie.”
New York’s state filming incentive has turned New York City into one of the top industry hubs in the US, and productions are specifically incentivised to shoot in upstate areas.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been rebooted as a movie franchise, with performance capture technology used to render the turtle characters.
