New mafia TV docudrama films West Virginia as New York

Docudrama The Making of the Mob: New York filmed on location in West Virginia. The series is executive produced by Stephen David, who has filmed several docudrama projects in West Virginia including The World Wars and American Genius.

The AMC series tells the story of more than 50 years of the mafia’s history in New York from 1905 onwards and will feature many of the most infamous characters of the first half of the 20th century.

“The Film Office is able to recruit these types of high-profile productions because of a film tax credit programme enacted by the legislature in 2007,” said Pam Haynes, Director of the West Virginia Film Office.

“West Virginia has benefited economically from all of the productions that have filmed in the state because of the tax credit programme. It is a positive economic tool designed to put our residents to work, thus gaining valuable experience and an ability to expand their skill sets.

“The goal of the Film Office is to build a sustainable industry and we are grateful for the legislature's support toward that mission.”

David’s series The World Wars doubled West Virginia locations for cities around the world, and spanned 30 years from the start of the First World War in 1914 through to the end of the Second World War in 1945.

West Virginia offers a base 27% filming incentive, although the film fund has just USD 5 million a year.

The Making of the Mob: New York will start in the US on AMC on 15 June 2015.
