New film Unforgettable aims for Exotic Marigold market with India shoot
New movie Unforgettable is taking inspiration from the success of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel by shooting a new film at a heritage hotel in Jodhpur in northern India. The story will follow an ageing filmmaker who moves to India when he loses his fortune.
Unforgettable is set to star screen veterans such as Marisa Berenson, Joan Collins and Tippi Hedren, while Indian actress Mahabanoo Mody-Kotwal will help expand the movie’s international appeal, reports news agency IANS.
The movie was in fact originally written with an Italian setting, but has since been rewritten for an India shoot.
“We have looked at the location and it is perfect,” said producer Karen G Cadle at the D23 Expo 2015, in comments reported by IANS.
“The shoot will start in January or February when the weather becomes pleasant. It will be shot in a heritage hotel, which will actually be the home of my male lead.
“I hope our film does for India what The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (above) did as that film really brought India under a new light. I want my film to do the same for India.”
More Hollywood shoots are choosing to film in India and movie industries around the world are making co-production deals to attract Bollywood, which is massive international business.
Visual effects house Dneg and Prime Focus World recently announced plans to open a new base in Mumbai’s Film City to complement existing facilities in London, Vancouver and Singapore.
“Prime Focus is the undisputed industry leader in India and knows the market, the culture and the landscape better than any other company,” said Matt Holben, CEO of Double Negative.
