Panavision opens satellite office at Pinewood Atlanta in Georgia

Camera systems provider Panavision is opening a satellite office at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Georgia. The announcement comes soon after confirmation that Thor: Ragnarok will film at the studio, which will be Marvel’s fourth Atlanta-based production.

“Panavision is always looking for opportunities to further extend our expertise to filmmakers, and opening at Pinewood puts us in a position to do just that,” said Panavision’s Bob Harvey, Executive Vice President of Global Sales & Marketing.

“There is a lot of production demand in Atlanta and Panavision is primed to continue to support filmmakers in this region with our unparalleled level of services and high-quality inventory.”

Pinewood Atlanta Studios opened in early 2014 and has already hosted the Marvel superhero movies Ant-Man and Avengers follow-up Captain America: Civil War. New sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled to start filming early next year and then Thor: Ragnarok – Thor’s third solo outing – will follow.

The previous Guardians and Thor movies both took advantage of the UK’s filming incentives with bases in London.

Georgia has become one of the top production hubs in the US, partly as a result of its generous filming incentive programme that starts at a base rate of 20% but can easily rise to 30%.

With the exception of the upcoming Doctor Strange which will shoot in London with Benedict Cumberbatch and Tilda Swinton as the leads, Marvel seems settled in Atlanta. Meanwhile, Lucasfilm – also owned by Marvel parent company Disney – has committed to shooting the Star Wars franchise in London for the next couple of years.
