US-China Film Summit to spotlight Hollywood relationship with Far-East

The Sixth Annual US-China Film Summit will spotlight China’s investments in Hollywood and look at new ways the US and China could collaborate. Chinese director Zhang Yimou and Zhang Zhao, head of private-sector studio Le Vision Pictures, will both be honoured at the summit.

Yimou has most recently directed fantasy epic The Great Wall, a Chinese film shot in English with an international cast headed by Matt Damon, which is now the largest US-China co-production.

Zhao’s Le Vision Pictures has partnered with Legendary Entertainment and Universal Pictures on the movie and is also involved with other Hollywood studios.

“At a time of extraordinary change in film and entertainment, Asia Society’s US-China Film Summit focuses on a vital constant: the deepening collaboration between Hollywood and China,” said Josette Sheeran, President and CEO of Asia Society.

“Chinese filmmakers and producers have become a real force globally. Our honourees reflect film’s importance as a cultural, educational and business bridge, and Asia Society is proud to be recognising these talents and connecting them with professionals and audiences around the world.”

The summit will also include talks from American and Chinese studio heads, as well as discussions on how to avoid “disconnects” from cultural differences and misunderstandings that have affected co-productions in recent years.

“It’s been a momentous year for Hollywood and China, and our US-China Film Summit once again leads the way in bringing the key players together to discuss the most important issues,” said Thomas E McLain, Chairman of Asia Society Southern California and an attorney at Hogan Lovells.

The Sixth Annual US-China Film Summit takes place at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles on 5 November 2015.
