Jackie Chan filming Kung Fu Yoga in Dubai

Jackie Chan starts filming in Dubai this week for his new movie Kung Fu Yoga. The production is scheduled to last around four weeks and is the first to be made under India and China’s recently signed co-production agreement. Servicing is being provided by AlKatraz Productions.

“The locations we have selected perfectly complement the scenes we are shooting here,” said director Stanley Tong.

“Dubai’s iconic skyscrapers and attractions are recognised around the world, and we are excited to work closely with Dubai Film and TV Commission to ensure an enjoyable and successful filming time in Dubai.”

Added Jamal Al Sharif, chairman of Dubai Film and TV Commission: “We are very excited to welcome Jackie Chan and the team to Dubai. The UAE is becoming an increasingly popular destination for Hollywood and Bollywood productions, and the filming of Kung Fu Yoga in Dubai is another major boost for our film industry.”

Dubai is also scheduled to host scenes for Star Trek Beyond, the next instalment in Paramount’s reboot of the iconic sci-fi series. The film recently wrapped studio work in Vancouver.

The international activity in Dubai switches focus in the United Arab Emirates from Abu Dhabi, which last year hosted action sequences for Fast & Furious 7 (above), as well as key scenes for the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Abu Dhabi’s 30% filming incentive played an integral role in securing those shoots.

“The locations in Abu Dhabi are amazing,” said James Wan, director of Fast & Furious 7: “It adds a lot of production value to the film and makes it really exotic.”

Dubai does not yet offer a formal filming incentive, but the film commission instead offers the opportunity for bespoke production support.
