Star Trek Beyond prepares for two weeks of location filming in Dubai
The cast and producers of Star Trek Beyond, the third in the rebooted sci-fi franchise, have gathered in Dubai ahead of two weeks of location filming in the city. Shooting will take place on location and at Dubai Studio City.
Star Trek is moving to Dubai following three months of studio filming in Vancouver for the further adventures of Kirk and Spock near the beginning of their Starfleet careers.
“Dubai represents the future of what the frontier would be like in our film and is an excellent place to shoot the movie as well as a special opportunity for all of us,” said producer Jeffrey Chernov.
“This is not just the third of three movies, but has a new, refreshing twist, and Dubai's great visuals really fit the story.”
"Dubai's diverse locations have truly set it apart as a global filming destination,” added Jamal Al Sharif, chairman of the Dubai Film and TV Commission: “During the scouting, the film crew was impressed by its diverse attractions and locations that include skyscrapers, beaches, desert and more.
“There are many factors about the Emirate that are truly unique and attractive to international productions, including the excellent connectivity and cutting-edge infrastructure, as well as the ease of filming.”
Star Trek Beyond is produced by some of the same team that worked on Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, the last major Hollywood production to shoot in Dubai.
Dubai does not yet offer a formal filming incentive. However, a special tailored support package was arranged for Mission: Impossible to make the local finances more viable – something similar is likely to have been worked out for Star Trek Beyond.
