Sundog Pictures sends Richard Branson to the Alps for VOOM commercial

Envy Advertising, in collaboration with Production Company Sundog Pictures has filmed on location in the Swiss Alps for the latest VOOM campaign, ‘Pitch to Rich’ competition. As the title suggests, the campaign offers entrepreneurs the chance to pitch their business ideas to the renowned founder of Virgin, Richard Branson.

The commercial features Branson alongside previous VOOM finalists as they scale the Alps and share their insights on business. The spot concludes with the cast meeting at a mountain peak before the camera pans to show a grand shot of the Alps.

Danny Wood, Colourist at ENVY Advertising explains: “it’s a really beautifully shot piece of work. The look of the interviews was based on the iconic portraits of Yousuf Karsh, which sat against muted colour in other scenes.”

Helen Richardson, Producer at Sundog Pictures adds: “this was a potentially fiddly project, with lots of different and ever-evolving deliverables, a significant VFX component, and three offline suites running simultaneously. James Trimming and Pete Burch were absolute heroes, ensuring the whole process ran smoothly from start to finish and that we were well looked after throughout. The tone and mood of the colouring was a central creative component for Bruce Goodison right from the start, with much of it shot for black and white. Danny Wood took Bruce’s ideas on board and ran with them, creating a beautiful, strong grade that brought the films to life.”

Switzerland is currently without a formal incentive programme but the country still offers additional factors to entice international productions. As a result of Swiss law, the country can offer longer working hours on local labour and has previously arranged coproduction agreements with a variety of countries including Germany and Canada.

The BBC’s The Night Manager recently filmed on location at a local ski resort in Zermatt, whereas the Academy Award nominated Youth took to Kanton Graubünden and Kanton Bern.
