Transformers: The Last Knight arrives in Scotland for Isle of Skye filming
Transformers: The Last Knight, the latest instalment in Michael Bay’s long-running feature film series has begun shooting on location in the Isle of Skye. The shoot began yesterday morning and will carry on today, having set up in the areas of Quiraing, the Storr and Trotternish Ridge.
Lock-offs are currently in place to secure the premises and a helicopter was spotted around the shoot, likely to obtain establishing shots of the locations.
Production on the film began in May 2016 with a number of scenes being shot on location in Cuba. The Last Knight is one of the first American projects (alongside Fast and Furious 8) to make use of Cuba since the trade embargo was lifted in 2014.
While little is known about the film’s plot, The Last Knight will see the return of series regular Mark Wahlberg alongside Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson and newcomer Isabela Moner.
Hasbro and Paramount Pictures are producing the film, with Chapman/Leonard Studio Equipment providing the necessary kit for all studio shoots.
The Isle of Skye has been a popular filming location throughout the last year, after having been featured heavily in both Justin Kurzel’s Macbeth and Steven Spielberg’s The BFG. The latter used plate shots of the Isle to portray the fantasy world of Giant Country.
Productions that shoot in Scotland can benefit from the UK’s national film incentive programme. A 25% tax rebate is provided if a given production passes a cultural test and spends at least 10% of its overall budget within the country.
Transformers: The Last Knight will be released June 23rd, 2017.
